Aerial Photography

Aerial photography is the taking of photographs of the ground from an elevated position. The term usually refers to images in which the camera is not supported by a ground-based structure. Cameras may be hand held or mounted, and photographs may be taken by a photographer, triggered remotely or triggered automatically. Platforms for aerial photography include fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, balloons, blimps and dirigibles, rockets, kites, poles, parachutes,vehicle mounted poles . Aerial photography should not be confused with Air-to-Air Photography, when aircraft serve both as a photo platform and subject. Aerial photography was first practiced by the French photographer and balloonist Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, known as "Nadar", in 1858 over Paris, France. (wikipedia)

There is a beauty up there and thanks to Nadar, he share it with us. Recently aerial photography become more popular, and below are just some of great artworks from around the world, check it out!

Cool eh? :) you don’t have to use airplane to take shoot those view, you could do it from the top of building too. Well, here is some words from aeropix about how to take an aerial photography.

Frame and compose the picture properly as you are taking it. Vertical components in your subject must align to the frame. What would seem to be obvious, gets overlooked. Compose (or crop) your subject so that vertical objects appear vertical in the final product. This means vertical references, like edges of buildings, trees, flag-poles, etc. must be parallel to the vertical edge of the photo.
Aerial Photography too has its ups and downs. Your camera, especially being in an aircraft, is subject to movements and vibrations which can make your photos blurry. Some aerial photographers use a gyroscope-based stabilizer.
Always prepare for the unexpected. Always bring more than one camera with you, even if you are only shooting one format. Anticipate an equipment failure and be prepared with a second camera loaded and ready to go. Also, anticipate different weather from your take-off position to your shoot site.
Just as much as a ground photo, your work should be aesthetically pleasing. Balloons are always awesome, and are a favorite shoot from the air too.
Be creative. (My favorite tip, simple but deadly!)
Take a lot of photos of your subject. Take shots from various directions and various angles. You can always weed out what you do not want later.
Prepare your subject, whenever possible. For example, if you are going to be taking a picture of a home, the property should be tidy. Are there toys or junk in the yard? Laundry on the line? Such things are not unobtrusive and can take away from the picture.

James Ng and Steampunk Artworks

teampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history. (Wikipedia)

James Ng are an illustrator that always have deep research before he start to create a masterpiece. Because of his interest in Chinese Qing Dynasty most of his artwork are influence by Chinese culture. Here is some of his artworks:

key Keeper

“ The recently deceased key keeper and his pet cats had the responsibility of organizing all the keys and locks for the imperial dungeon. With the keeper gone, no one except his pets could pair the thousands of keys to their corresponding lock, but the feline family refused to go to work without their master. The Imperial Inventor, with permission from the court, reanimated the keeper's skeleton with steam engines to keep the loyal pets satisfied until they find a better solution. The skeletal remains of the eldest cat was also reanimated to serve as a pack leader and a mobile key cutting machine. ”

Court Band

“ In the past, skilled artist and performers were invited into the forbidden palace to perform in court, but this also gave way to assassins in disguise. There was also a problem with performances being too liberal for the conservative traditions of the noble family. With the dawn of steam dynasty, almost all court performers have been replaced by steam powered dolls. ”

Imperial Sheriff

“ The famed Sheriff of the Imperial City, known for his metallic arm The Iron Kirin. It is a small tribute to "The Stormriders", one of my favorite comic books by Hong Kong comic legend Ma Wing-Shing. Cloud, the lead character in the story, has a magical arm named Kirin. ”

Night Patrol

“ Assassins and thieves that dare to enter the forbidden palace would be wise to avoid the night patrol. Stepping into the circle of light generated by the patrol robot will not only cause the guard dog to attack, but will also set of the gong and baton alarm that summons more guards to deal with any intruders swiftly. ”

Immortal Empress

“Inspired by the Chinese historical figure Empress Dowager Ci Xi, who ruled over Qing Dynasty for nearly 50 years. Though she is over a century old and has a head full of grey hair, she looks young and survives by staying permanently attached to the massive life support surging into her golden throne. She becomes part of this floating machine that she is attached to, being almighty and almost haunting.”

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Ronan Bouroullec (born 1971) and Erwan Bouroullec (born 1976) have been working together for about ten years now. Their collaboration is a permanent dialogue nourished by their distinct personalities and a shared notion of diligence.

In 1997, they presented their “Disintegrated Kitchen” at the Salon du Meuble in Paris and were spotted by Giulio Cappellini, who gave them their first industrial design projects, notably the Lit clos (“Closed Bed”) and the Spring Chair. In 2000, Issey Miyake asked them to design a space for his new collection of A-Poc clothes in Paris. Then, the decisive meeting with chairman of Vitra Rolf Fehlbaum occurred which resulted in their conception of a new kind of office system, Joyn, in 2002. This was the beginning of a special partnership which has borne fruit in numerous projects, including Algues, the Alcove Sofa, the Worknest, the Slow Chair and the Vegetal. Since 2004, the Bouroullecs have also been working with Magis, for whom they have designed two complete furniture collections, Striped and Steelwood. Finally, they have worked on several types of textile wall systems, such as the North Tiles and the CLouds, in close collaboration with the Kvadrat brand, for whom they designed showrooms in Stockholm in 2006 and in Copenhagen in 2009.
